Florida A&M University (FAMU) President Larry Robinson, Ph.D., received the Excellence in Educational Leadership Award during the 2024 Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration and Award Ceremony Wednesday.

Leon County Government, the MLK Foundation of Florida, and the Inter-Civic Council of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference co-hosted of the annual event, held at the Leon County Courthouse in Tallahassee.

FAMU VP/Athletic Director Tiffani-Dawn Sykes and her Florida State University counterpart, Michael Alford, received the Community Champion Award for their successful work this past season.

Each also received an award presented by the three local chambers of commerce – Capital City Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, and the Big Bend Minority Chamber and for winning championships and bring dollars into the community. Sykes was lauded for “an outstanding first year.”

The Excellence in Community Service Award was presented to Dr. Ray Mobley for his work with the Tallahassee Chapter of 100 Black Men and G.C. Murray II, Esq., for his work with the ICE Foundation.

The annual event celebrated and honored Dr. King’s enduring legacy and local leaders “who embody Dr. King’s spirit through their continuous support for our community.”

Leon County School Board Member and FAMU alumnus Darryl Jones was the keynote speaker for the celebration.
